Under Snow

^^First hand details will be made available to all participants this evening but here is a look at what went down, literally, on Mount Ralston on Sunday. Check out those tracks. Mine are the ones on the right, thankfully not split by the 2' avalanche crown. The slab broke loose while my buddy was smack dab in the middle of the cliff band. He was engulfed and rolled right over the rocks, yet somehow escaped unscathed and only partially buried.

The Pollywood trails are still under snow but is seems time to return to the Tuesday taco tradition after last week's steeps. Hopefully the call out for this week will get some more flesh soon but there is a strong groundswell to return to the Knott on the usual time schedule and to do so after sliding around on the snow up there.

I have a few extra pairs of XC skis and boots that are up for grabs. I also have some snowshoes. I'm sure we can find some low angle terrain to scoot about on before going for tacos as usual, perhaps we can do a lake loop or variation thereof.

I'm sure that any lack of snow gear can be overcome, so please post your needs. If you will be attending with your own snow tools share that too please.

One!

  1. It is white and wonderful up the hill, unless your want to ride a bike. I am all in for a ski loop. I will be there with skinny scales ready to rip! I have one extra pair of scale skis to loan out. Unless you have small feet, I am short on extra boots.

The other option is to hit the luge track and kicker in our backyard that has been iced over and now requires an issuance waiver.

Snow shoeing around the lake is a stout undertaking.

I also still have a skijoring harness for Dory that could be used. Don't take a one-dog-power engine lightly. There is a reason that the harness was only used once. Being pulled by a dog on snow, while wearing skis is a life changing event, especially if old growth is involved. Oh, I also have plenty of spare helmets!

  3. Foot Toes? That must be some odd college reference.

  5. Free-Heal Tele Taco Tuesday...the options are endless.

The one man effort in the HCF is on!

Unrest in Northern Africa has me wondering what political power FT3 could unleash with our uncanny ability to mobilize? A peoples revolt seems to be universally accepted as an acceptable coup. Would a peoples revolt atop of people powered machines garner even more popular support for its kind treatment to mother earth? With even a portion of Hosni Mubarak's stashed fortune, we could provide two wheeled opportunities to the masses! Power to the people my friends, and People power all the way!

  7. Under snow and under attack. Like a pirate in the Indian Ocean, I am planning to hold hostage one of FT3's most dynamic participants for a bike shop in leiu of a snow adventure outing this evening. However, the back channeling forces may be too great. FT3's anti-piracy forces are obviously trained well. At this point, however, I have Bambi. I will offer him back for a sum of 12 tacos, 4 PBR's...and Chickenbake. If I don't have those items offered by 3:00pm today, the bike shop stands as previously planned! Aaaarrrrrrrrgh!!

  8. That sounds a whole lot like collective bargaining. If the esteemed Gov. of Wisconsin has his way, such wrangling in the US work place or riding location may greatly shift from a norm experienced of the last 50 or so years. The fallout of such shifting of "workers rights" would have a curious impact on local and state gov't ability to balance budgets. I avoid inserting opinion at such time as I don't really know what this all means. Interesting times, interesting times!

  10. Pardon the tardy post. i had an unusual encounter with "work". I will be out for tonight's FTski.
Spending the evening at home in anticipation of my bachelor week ahead. Who wants to go skiing tomorrow night?

What's up with Cap'n taking an FT3er hostage? That's just short of an open declaration of war. And making demands, pshaw. More like he'll have to buy tacos and beers to be welcomed back after such mutinous behavior.

  11. It's at this point that I, your councilman, and would be mediator, must intervene. Before there is bloodshed, I will seek to bring the parties to the negotiating table. There won't be any stalemates, nor stale beers. I will begin by visiting with our good Captain. As a patron of many bike shops, I must pay respect to this venerable tradition. Once I understand his position, I'll make a taco appearance, and work with the group at large to find consensus, and the release of said hostage. Of course, my services require some form of payment. I'll opt for chickenbake and Peebers.

  12. The forces of FTSki are great. The jedi mind tricks of B and NoCar are strong as well, as are the desires to be part of the 'most important meeting of the week.' Before the white flag is raised to full mast- there will be no accusations of mutiny or tyranny. Surely the members of FT3 understand the need to have an effectively rolling steed, especially in light of a forthcoming race of epic and annual importance (Cool MTB Race). The mediation of C-man is appreciated and well deserved. Retract your accusations, and enjoy your anticipations, for the release of a hostage is pending!!

  13. I was totally going to ride with you guys tonight, but it sounds like you are not riding. It is so weird. Whenever I try to connect with you guys it doesn't work out.

  14. Two cents from down south. Tuesday is on the calendar as a night for hanging w/your cycling bros and eating tacos, even if you don't ride. Usually absenses are allowed for tyranical work schedules, out of town travel, sickness (in the extreme), and anything if you are Peter.
    I am out of town.

  15. Sliding fluid is a solid offering, jedi mind trick or not. White flag is at full mast in a peaceful surrender. Thankfully C-man's mediation was not necessary today. And, sparks will not fly since there will be no bike shop. Skis may fly tho!
