After a very jealously missed event and feast last week, I'm hoping for a return to normalcy, tacos and some dirt.
Do we have a report from any resident members on the surface conditions. Speaking of surface conditions, this must be what it was like in the old days of ski areas when you had to guess what conditions were like at the hill, there were no live web cams or hourly mobile device updates of trail conditions back in the day. I'm speaking out my ass of course because back in the day for me, I could dial in the recorded message at 6:am and get the Mount Shasta Ski Park or even better Lassen Ski Park recorded snow report. That is, unless the line was busy because so many other freaks who were not even skiing that day (like me probably) were just jonsing for an update and locked up the old analog system.
Back to 2013 and while we don't have a live web cam of the Pollywood Megaplex, we do have a pretty good idea of what is happening up on Pony Express from the Pollock Pines web cam. And yet, I find that still lacking. What is the status and plan for this week?
Will there be less snow on the ground near the water due to the micro climate?
UPDATE:
California public TV icon Huell Howser dead at 67
http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/07/showbiz/california-howser-obit/index.html?iref=allsearch
As I went to bed last night I saw this sad but uplifting story on CNN and could not help but laugh and feel sad at the same time at how much fun we have all had recalling Huell's funny and insightful antics. He will be well remembered tonight!
I'm down for and hoping for riding the Pollywood.
One -for whatever we ride - except I'm not riding to Salmon Falls tomorrow from town FYI.

2! Um, I think we ride it clockwise down to EDH, then over SF, and back home via Cronin and 49. At least that's what I heard...Good to hear from the nameless one. You were sorely missed last week. I'm still hiccuping from all that chicken bake. Spotters, we need spotters!!!!
ReplyDeletePost update since last night. RIP Huell Howser.
ReplyDeleteThree. My guess is that we can find plenty of good trails and just enough snow to keep our skills up.
ReplyDeleteFour! And no, I have not taken up golf in Palm Springs.
ReplyDeleteNeed to pickup FT3 participation to justify new steed.
Pollywood Trails are pure Gold! I believe that beginning on Day 1 of FT3 there was talk of inviting Huell Howser to Pol-Lock P-ines to do a segment on the crazy Moun-Tain B-ik-ers who emerge on Tue-s-Day nights to ride! I do not claim to be a TV guru, but trust that this segment would have proved the high mark in Huell's travels through California's Gold! Alas this segment will only exist in our dreams. While we will not be able to sit and chat with Huell at the Knot celebrating the different trails and scoville units, we may have a chance to properly recognize his legacy. There has been talk of an alternate Team 1/Team 2 summer outing. I believe Huell has set a mighty precedent and itinerary, we just have to start linking his travels together via pedal power! FT3HHM Summer Tour...any takers?

LOtB here with your Morning Trail Report:
ReplyDeleteLow lying trails especially by water will be in great shape by this evening. High elevations and northern exposures still may be snow covered. We are expecting a sunny day with ride time temps in the mid 40's. While more weather is forecast later this week, riding should be good for the next two days. Kick Peter to the curb and get out there and enjoy the trails.
Oh yeah:

A No Handle callout, awesome! I sense the looming Solvang outing has perked up his motivation. I hope it's contagious.
ReplyDeleteI have heard from two reliable sources that Cappy plans to retire from FT3 in order to pursue his musical ambitions. I wonder if tonight we will also be memorializing our former friend and team mate.
ReplyDeletePresume well you do Grasshopper RG.
ReplyDeleteNoCar, our dear Cappy has been afflicted with these two opposing passions as long as I've known him (and longer I'm sure). No mortal can maintain near pro status in both Rock Starting and UCI Racing at the same time (Well, maybe Lance could but he is about to admit to doping so he would have been cheating anyway).
And incase there is any doubt, thanks to DRL's report, we are riding the polly plex for sure tonight.
ReplyDeleteGreat call out NoHandle!

Seven. Morning meetings kept me away from saving my good name in the blog HCF. So glad the callout recognized the passing of the great PBS institution that is Huell Howser, this shall forever be known as the Huell Howser Memorial ride, and I personally shall ensure that each of us raise a can of PBR in his name this evening in advance of our adventures in California's gold.
ReplyDeleteRock stars and near pro cyclists have a commonality in that the collective masses and media like to tell there own story of what they think will happen with those of whom they follow. The truth always prevails!
