Complex and Simple

The bike, when you think about, it has not really changed that much, ever! Two triangles, a fork and some wheels will just about do the trick. The simplicity of S2FT3 reminds me of this on at least a monthly basis. Additionally, nothing is more simple than the therapy of a group of guys meeting for a weekly ride and some teenage based humor. We have stumbled across a very simple thing with profoundly complex results. For example, we are currently in the midst of planning the first out of state FT3 cycling adventure. The allure of Portland CX racing is calling us. On this complex front, I know there are some people who read our blog but have no idea what we do on Tuesday nights. To that end, I need some help. I have attached a video sent to me by my buddy Justin (Wentworth Springs Ride guy). This is the WA state equivalent to the death ride. Anyway, this is a pretty simple video that allows others to see how complex the riding is. WE NEED VIDEO! There is no way I can put together videos, so I was hoping someone else might be interested in this duty.

Softball Update:
The PBR's gave that evil Casino team a run for their money last week. After a back and forth effort in the early innings, the simple little team from P'ville tied the game in the top of the 9th (may not be 9 innings, but that sounds better). The complex monstrosity that is Casino politics, sovereign nations, and laws were able to squeak on last run in and scurried back down the hill. Our hero's will return to the diamond on Thursday for another attempt at glory.

Weekend Ride Report:
Green/Fro and Bambi did the death ride, no report yet, it rained in the afternoon which could have been interesting for those guys. I know that Ghostrider headed out to Toads for a spin, but have no details from the ride. Rock God, fresh off his road trip, headed out on a standard Starks Grade loop with me. Great ride and good catching up on a simple Sunday effort.

Ride #61
Might be a light week with folks off camping, but hey this is a simple outing right!

Until we ride again,

  1. TWO. I need a break from not getting anything done. :-)

I do have a helmet cam, it's an old bulky model(i.e. - you have to carry a video recorder...), maybe I can bring it out.

BTW - I'm now an Apple Mac and iPhone user, I feel younger, and maybe faster ;-)

    Rock God

  2. Three! Need to spin out the legs from the weekend training and really need some tacos.

The weekend was awesome. Saturday morning did a moderate paced road ride in the morning, then rounded of the day with some kyaking on the south fork near barking dog. The evening consisted of some heavy beer drinking.

Sunday morning Inlaw, my wife(Prarie city super star), father inlaw, and two others headed off for toads in tahoe. My noble horse for the day was the ridged raleigh single speed. And no it was not by choice, I popped a piston out of the superlights rear brakes during a pad change out. The ride went well. I cleaned almost all of the rock gardens on the climb and cleaned the whole down hill. I think I prefer the single speed ridged over a full squish for toads. Inlaw tried his best on the gardens, but I guess his 4.5inch full squish 29er just could not be controlled. Oh well, maybe next time. (It may have something to do with the taco record attempt and failure. Sorry Inlaw, I had to say it.) There were no mechanicals. And only one bad spill by one of father inlaws friends.
My wife amazed me by her climbing abilities and improvement on the downhill. By the end of the downhill she was rolling over everything. All in all it was a very good ride. We finished of the ride with a tasty sandwich and 32 ounce PBR from the beach hut deli in tahoe. Then headed back home.
Upon arrival I met up with an old friend to do some interval training on the new Placerville drive bridge. I almost made myself puke. But kept going. rounded off eight sprints. My legs felt fine but my body needed food. Had a good meal and a few PBRs to round off the evening.

Monday I did some more intervals and a short road ride with the Inlaws. And finished off the evening at the inlaws with homemade tacos and a viewing of the 12th stage of the tour.

With a good weekend of riding I think I may be ready for my first crit this weekend, The Boise Twighlight Crit.

Oh yeah, VD was supposed to go on toads with me but he backed out due to a bad in-grown toe nail. I said H.T.F.U. and he still did not go and missed a good ride. I think he better H.T.F.U. and show up tonight to redeem himself.
(VD, you new I was going to say it!)

  3. Forth! As our friendly Ghost Rider explained I had/have a nasty in-grown toe nail. Decided to play doctor on my own which ended up in much pain. I still have some bruising and swolleness but figure I should be able to get out today.

Also if we want to get some video, I do have a cam we can mount to a helmet. Video quality is not the best but it will do the job without any problem.

  4. Five suckahs. Death ride went smooth. Decided to not let the mangina get the best of me and rode all 5 passes. I saw Green/Fro on ebbetts but I didnt get a chance to talk to him.

  5. Vid is super easy. That footage was shot with just a simple canon point and shoot digital camera. most now have he capability to get 30-60 sec shots. helmet cams and such are cool, but kind of a lot to lug around...
