With a little bit more rain last night, trails should be ripp'n fast for CXSSFT3! Also, today marks the first Winter Weather Advisory to pop up on the old iPhone weather app! Looks like the tops of the peaks may get a bit of a dusting! Will we see B tonight or will he try and find the first freshies of the season?
Ride Report:
Looks like NoCar and B made the most of a perfect fall Saturday and tore up Strawberry Valley FT3 style. I did enjoy the mention of a baby head finale! That is a good "rattle your eyeballs out of the socket" way to draw any day of riding to an end.
Councilman, Ghost and I took the road less traveled and, well, as the good poet says, it made quiet a difference. In fact it caused us to get Councilman home late, the bikes to get a good muddy bath, and general spirit to be higher than it has been in a while. As the trail now called "Somewhere" finally spit us back out onto Park Creek, Councilman exclaimed it was like bumping into an old friend. I don't think the route would be hard to recreate, however, it did illustrate how vast a labyrinth of trails and roads exist between 50 and MET. All I can say is that, yonder outing when atop of the Knoll or Knob, when debate ensued, its a real good thing we turned around...oh by the way, there is a second Knob or Knoll just past the first, offering fantastic views, and much bigger than the first Knob or Knoll! There is a joke in there, I am sure of it! The trails were starting to absorb the rain on Sunday morning. There was still a ways to go to get back to the epic conditions that winter can produce, but we are well on our way.
Racing update:
RG went up north and experienced Cross Crusade. He claims it was an off day, I am just happy to see that the man is actually human. Hey RG, why don't you have one of those human episodes around us, so we can all feel better about ourselves?
This Saturday is the first race of the Sac CX Series. This event will be at Harry Renfree Field. This appears to be a last minute venue change. From the previously slated venue, I am assuming this will be an improvement. However, the Saturday race is a DTI killer. Seeing how there is a Sunday option up in Kirkwood (Race #2 for the Sagebrush Series out of Reno) it looks like the season will start on Sunday for at least me. Cap'n and Bambi have both mentioned interest in the Sunday option as well. A's race starts at 11:30! Time to fire up the engine.

Two.
ReplyDeleteAnd unless anyone objects, I would like to ride lead today. I'm torn on what to do given the trail conditions. Really been wanting to pull down Grimenger but now, given the rain more of the epic single track that Pollyworld offers seems inviting. Then I think about the bike I'll be riding and I waffle again.
Three.
ReplyDeleteI am in for sure.
I like PBR and Tacos....and awesome trail conditions.
Grimenger loop took us 3.5 hours on Sunday moving at a steady pace...if that is the call by the self appointed SUB ride leader, we will need to hit quick and get a timely departure.
ReplyDeleteFour. The K-wood, up to no good racing option is looking good for me. Lung searing fun!
ReplyDeleteThere is a motion on the floor, do I hear a second to that motion?
Seeing how I presented that option, didn't you just second it?
ReplyDeleteI'm out, heading to Squaw Valley, to return on friday. I don't know what I'll miss most, the joy of riding up to cross night, the full tilt action of tacky trails, or the taco banter determining proper ride leader titles.
ReplyDeleteFive. Trails should be sweet tonight. I need cross tire recomendations! I may pick some up at lunch today so let me know what you think.
ReplyDeleteIf you are planning on racing at Kirkwood, I don't think it matters what the tire is, just fill it with pure O2 so you can periodically take a hit off the tube and not pass out! Man, I am full of piss and vinegar today! That is most certainly different than P3!
ReplyDeleteI will not be a sub-ride leader, that role is appointed by the ride leader himself, nor did I appoint myself. I actually asked if there would be any oposition. Now, unless there is any oposition, I would be happy to accept Lars as my sub ride leader (piss and vinegar and all) and even accept his suggestion that Griminger is a long loop for tonight. I never got actual confirmation from the ride report over the weekend that the Grimenger was taken down, I just heard about exploring and knobbing and "somewhere". I'm open to ride anywhere and 3.5 hrs may be too much for tonight.
ReplyDeletePreBaars.
I smell a coup d'etat in the making! Poor communication, vague direction and massive inflation (over inflating ones tires) have the currents system in a spot of peril! Maybe I won't ride this morning but hide in the woods and deploy some guerrilla type attacks! Were is Wolf when you need him?
ReplyDeleteCoups usually revolve around the assumption of power, but more importantly, the control of some native resource (oil, diamonds, water even). If TooHotToHandle is making his play, then he must have foot-soldiers and may have even swayed other ranking members (the pithy core). Question is, what does he want to control? The route? The title of Ride Leader? The responsibility to communicate (blog)? Who did he buy off?
ReplyDeleteThese are exciting times, and I for one will be watching with a Journalist's eye. I may even embed myself with the troops, as they fend off said Guerrila type attacks!
Until then, I will settle for a bottle of Malbec and round or 2 of tango this evening. Class ends this month, so I will be back soon to monitor events first hand.
Yes, Grimenger was taken down. It involved some Recon, a few missed turns, and a nice descent along park creek. Thanks Lars for the Reece's PBC brownie. I'm still coming down off the sugar rush...
I assume everything!
ReplyDeleteI want to be in charge for a change. You guys never let me be ride leader. Not sure I am going to come out tonight anyways tho. Skinny tires and single speeds aren't really my thing.
ReplyDeleteI really don't care who is in charge or what route we take. I just hope that there is some PreBRs and good humored people to ride with.
ReplyDeleteCappy, I will be using my single candel powered night light to ride tonight. Do you need a light I have a ten pound back up.
I'm really just trying to set a new first at FT3, the first Lady and the Tramp taco.
ReplyDeleteThe only power I was looking for was via a request from the larger group (read the first few words of the hidden comment field today). I suggest we all meet early, drink a lot of PreBRs and all lead our own rides, meet back at the Knot to compare notes, that way each of us can be Ride Leader, SUB ride leader (whatever) and sweep.
B should steal his title from a local Cameron Pak dentist "Forest Boozer"
ReplyDeleteI've never read Lord of the Flies, but my children (or thier parents) have been accused of being willing participants in such antics. Maybe we should talk about excursion rails, or aggro racing tactics, or maybe charging for riding at pollywood. I'm falling asleep.
ReplyDeleteAnyone ant dead guy whiskey tonight?
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is Walk to School day. Nuff said. We will have an all hands on deck meeting at the knott lot. FT3 will be in ship shape. Shape up or ship out. Ship out to aerobic boot camp that is. I think the average posts in the hidden comment field today have been longer than ever before. That's why I am rambling. Keeping up with the FT3 riders. Yet another first for FT3.
ReplyDeleteWTF is walk to school day. That is a long haul for Cappy's kids. Anyone wearing a cod-piece warmer tonight? Will it be ticky or tacky out there tonight and more importantly, Bambi, are you buying the PreBRs tonight. I think it is your turn.
ReplyDeleteI second the motion for Bambi to purchase Pre-BR's. All in favor? It's a good start toward a nomination for tonight's MVR.
ReplyDeleteNoHandle. There is an obesity epidemic in America. One of the oft-noted reasons for this epidemic is due to sedentary lifestyles and lack of exercise. If only once per year, kids could use a walk to school. My kids, well they are exempt. They actually get exercise and don't live sedentary lifestyles. In fact, they have participated in Lord of the Flies style activities at camp TooHotToHandle.
ReplyDeleteWord Cappy, I like it. Just didn't understand it. Check this out those of you who have kids.
ReplyDeletePG for sure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOKuSQIJlog&feature=related
I second or did I initiate the Bambi purchase?
Since NoCar can't make it tonight I'll take his honorary role and head to the kitchen now and get a Pre-PreBL.
ReplyDeleteNoHandle, you made the motion. After the second, (which I did), the next step is, "All in Favor?" Signify by saying "Aye." I can't say "Aye" though because I seconded the motion. You can't either cause you made the motion. I suggest a review of Roberts Rules of Order.
ReplyDeleteAye
ReplyDeleteBTW, Bambi that is a twelver, not a sixer, but the large cans that B likes to get detention for taking into the Knot proper are proper indeed.
