Sunday proved to be the first real test to the summer calendar. The weather was hot and the roads were all pointing up. Cap'n, Xteric, NoHandle, RockGod, and I all headed East early Sunday morning. Hoping to stay out of the triple digit temps for awhile, Pollock seemed to be the best destination. The ride up Starks proved to be ample testing ground for the legs. Rock God, finding his form, Cap'n and NoHandle put on a show of power. Seeing how I was way OTB I have no idea who took the sprint. Cap'n and Xteric peeled off in Pollock and the remain three when venturing down Fourbay. Down, down, down, kind of like the winter P'ville cross ride led by Cap'n. At the bottom we were met with a raging river and a real deal climb. Lots of fun. More later.
Until we ride again.

Note:
Ghostrider was present for Saturday night festivities, and absent for the ride. Spot on Cap'n for making both, with kids!

Doing some softball research and found this:

Extended ride report:
ReplyDeleteCap'n with his shiny rear cog and pain reducing hang over, set the pace up Starkes; No Handle kept it close until the steep crux. When things flattened out and gravity reduced its pull I was able to catch their wheels, barely hanging on. No-Handle got a gap but Cap'n found some distilled grain calorie stores and blasted by for KOM #1.
The Forebay Road descent and climb is a summer favorite, for long hot climbs anyway. LoTB, No-Handle and I enjoyed a nice leisurely decent and steady roll up the steeps of Forebay. The pace picked up a bit on the many rollers at the top of Forebay and tree shaded Blair Road. After a brief run down Pony Express we took the Apple Hill scenic route back. I created a gap before the last big climb to Carson Rd, it only succeeded in hardening No-Handle’s resolve, he found another gear, literally, and powered up North Canyon to a decisive KOM #2 win. We re-grouped for the blazing down hill run to P’ville and final sprint out of the Carson/Jacquier gulley. I was coasting in the lead, No-Handle took the bait and led out the first 75 meters, where I powered by for a full victory salute; LoTB said something about almost snatching the victory, as No-Handle and I exchanged bewildered glances. ;-)
A Great day, great ride, and great company.
School’s out for summer!
It is worth noting that while Lars didn't win any of the KOM victories, he was probably the only one who ran, yes on foot, 25 miles the day before. Way to HTFU Lars.
ReplyDeleteFrom our nations capital, I'm out tonight. I'll be dining w/Michelle and Mr. President Obama.
