Ride Light Savings Time

Basking in the late day sunlight, we made our ride preparations. Nearly ready to go, the FT3 fashion police unanimously told Safety that he couldn’t ride with us dressed as he was. After sifting through extra layers, Safety traded out his cotton t-shirt and winter parka for a synthetic long sleeve and vest. Nothing could be done to get him out of his cotton sweat pants, however. B was let loose as ride leader, a decision that left some with regrets. Dropping from the horse camp we encountered new improvements installed by the Pollywood mountain bike park builders. We followed that with a dam climb.

We dropped a marginal trail that turned into a fall-line brush crash.

More climbing

At Fleming, we turned CW, then at some point turned around. 8A and 8B were dismissed by NH because he had a mechanical and by RG because he is RG. For an excuse he explained how big the eclairs were in France.

RideLeader B shrewdly compromised with a MET roll to left lip drop. He even assisted NH on his battle scarred Stumpy with a shove-up. Hand slings were not attempted, as we have seen how that turns out.

A fine taco session followed. We had to ask a couple to make room for us in the Knott dining room. They politely obliged and then marveled when staff brought out our private stash of sauces. Mother was not impressed by attempts to pay with monopoly money.

KIT ORDER
A kit order is going to be placed following next Tuesday's ride. Please let me know what you want. Look for a new email thread coming out today. Of course, Xt will receive a personal phone call since he neither reads the blog or email.

  1. Very prompt and accurate ride report NoCar. Toting those pastries, duck dishes and bordeaux's, the hills were all a bit harder last night.

Great photo of the first spill on the Pivot; I like the 'impressionist' feel of the piece, and the plausible deniability that it was me.

I'll be OUT next week in Portland on business and in Moab the following week. You should be able to float the spreadsheet and get commitments for orders. If someone will heard the cats on the orders, I'll handle the vendor.

Time to start planning the 2013 LRP calendar.

  2. Great write up Nocar! I just added my photos and the ride map to the bottom of your post. GPS specs indicate around 13 miles, 2hr 17 minutes and 3.6k feet of climbing. Councilman's GPS indicated around 3k feet of climbing and that may be more accurate. I'm glad other riders lent me clothing or I would have baked on last night's ride.

I've been waiting to put a kit order in with FT3 and have to pre-call an "out" next week due to work related scheduling. Warm weather, great trail conditions and an awesome group of riders called for an excellent FT3 night!!

  3. Proper reporting, NC. A splendid evening, and I'm looking forward to new kit and at least some LRP action this summer.

  4. Some serious hardware fondling in those pics from Safety. I expect to see a wave of squish purchases this year.

Did you have the 'fat' lens on that camera? Whoa, I'm signing up for the LRP's before the formal announcements.

    1. Yep, definitely a "fat" lens so in that photo, behind you, Councilman is indeed much skinnier.

  5. Indeed, good pics and a great ride report. RG, it's all about angles.

Doc said no fractures, and to rest it up for 3-5 weeks. I'll be lucky if I can stand 3-5 days of no riding. As for the full squish movement, time will tell. There is a serious amount of bike envy with that 1X11 and extra pivot points though.

    1. Mrs. nocar recovered from a sprained ankle by going on road rides. Perhaps you could join a spin class...

  6. I think No Handle was in extreme envy mode as his bike had mechanical problems the majority of the ride. So, I'm surprised he got off the full squish and properly handed it back to RG.

  7. I forgot to note that NoHandle almost went down in the lot on the Pivot because the right brake lever actuates the front brake. Close call but his exceptional mountain biking skills prevented him from dropping the bike.
