A Day on Dana

Carousing at Squaw Valley isn't going to get you up Squaw Ridge. And with a little coaxing, I convinced B to leave his pool party, last Saturday afternoon. We had a mission to check the high Sierra snow pack. After a night of camping on Lee Vining Creek, complete with Hobo dogs cooked over an open fire, we headed up Tioga Pass. Being on the injured roster, Mrs. Nocar provided shuttle and dog sitting services.

We headed for Mt Dana,

climbed the Solstice Couloir,

skied back down,

 whooped and hollered with joy,

crossed the Dana Plateau,

looked down the frighteningly rocky drop-in to Ellery Bowl,

skied it,

then did some biking, because this is FT3.

Its Tuesday, time to get some miles on the bicycles. Conditions are so good that we may even get back to back appearances from Lars and Bambi. I plan on doing a dirt roll-up, leaving Camino at 4.

ONE!

How awesome is it when you get to write couloir in a blog post - only about 10% as awesome as skiing it I'm sure.

  2. I was frequently offered to join fellow back country hard men, back in the day - you know which one - while living in Mammoth, regretably I never made it. Dana was a very frequent trip in spring for the locals.
I usually hit the Tioga road climb in spring when it was cleared to the gate but not into the park - sweet ride from Mammoth and back on the East Side. Oh yea, back in the day. I think it was maybe the 90s.

  4. Good outing and great pics. That looks like a steep pitch. I was a total no-show on the ski scene this year. I'm either all in next year or the gear is going up for sale.

  5. Excellent recap of your little "snow survey". Can either of you bill for that??? Awesome work. I'm ALL IN for tonight. Surprised at the burgeoning turnout despite such fair weather.

I will have payment in hand, NC. I hope I haven't missed that ship/train/express...

    1. I have access to the Pactimo account and Debbie has made a couple tweaks to the LPR logo to replace the Zia's spot. We'll have orders place by the end of the week.

I'm also proposing that we go with an all black short/bib with white lettering.

I also want to float changing out the Spoke logo on the shorts/bibs with "FT3Bike.com - Placerville, CA" via some sort of design. The Spoke will still have a jersey spot. Or I can add "FT3Bike.com" over the Spoke log - thoughts?

  8. I want to ride up too but then who will drive us all home - alas, I don't think I can quite pull a 4 pm departure, so I'll drive up.

  10. We need to get some LRP ride dates mapped out. I think a Trans Sierra and Downieville trips are must do's for the summer.

  12. To much cross posting, I can't even follow it all. I am riding tonight, I am very, very, very jealous of another FT3 well documented high mountain adventure (more so than NoHandle), I am paying for a jersey and shorts, although short totals don't show up on the spreadsheet (I thought we had enough), I like the idea of black shorts with white lettering, and don't mind if we drop the spoke butt print, FT3bike.com is good, can we add tacostrong on there, and I want to long ride the sierras and downieville, and I want to ride Bambi's new pump track...Did I forget anything?

    1. All covered, concisely and with color; definitely management material.

    2. In lieu of spoke butt print on FT3 shorts, would anyone like to take the extra step and get that tattooed on their butt cheeks?

  15. And, RG, I support whatever changes you feel like making to the kit.

  16. Not trying to buck the system over the price of a few tacos but the spreadsheet says bibs and jerseys are $85 each.

  17. I'm guessing that the spreadsheet had last year's prices.

    1. Or, rather, the prices from three year's ago.

    2. Thanks for managing the kit orders

    3. Those are the prices with a $1 item surcharge for shipping and donation toward a Knott Hole wall kit.

The Jacket price is $60, I had to check a different price list (non-custom). It looks good and got good reviews.

    4. So NC's price list is accurate, save the jacket, which is now $60?

  18. "Knott Hole wall Kit" - did anyone notice that smoothly added comment and price padding. Nice work RG. Great idea.
If anyone has an issue, I'll buy you a taco to cover it. But you have be at the KH to collect.
I'm down w/jersey changes but will skip the ass Tat. Cappy.
