Reverse Ninja Cycling

This morning I donned my black US Navy issue wool sweater and my recent birthday-gift balaclava for the ride to work. It was 36 degrees when I left my house.Needless to say I was comfortable the whole ride. Surprisingly, other than the kid in the back of the Eldo Office of Education Van with a stupid black headband on staring me down, I wasn't given too many akward looks. What, was it cold in the back of that van? Dude, my balaclava has a purpose. Besides, the Ninja look suits me well and with a solid foundation of tai chi from my college days I might be able to fake my way through a fight. Ninja training, now that's another topic. Along those lines, I provide you the attached viddy. OK so he's no Ninja, and it's American football, and the notion that you would stay up three days and not eat because you are training is ridiculious. But if you were a Ninja you might. I am pretty sure if you are a Ninja you can go three days without breathing.

I am going to turn you gents on to the latest craze in cycling. It's called Ninja cycling. When fixies and cyclocross are out of style, and when you need to be as hip as the coolest hipster, you go Ninja cycling.

This time of year, if you ride without a light after 5:00pm, you are Ninja cycling.
Really? Ninja cycling? I am confident the law of natural selection will force this awesome trend into extinction, but how can I be sure? I am also confident that if you go Ninja Cycling too often you might be able to go three days without breathing.

So what does all this have to do with FT3?

We are like Ninjas of the night. Alas, the winter is upon us and we don our balaclavas and armwarmers. We don our knickers and tights, and reverse ninja cycling by using our lights. As our thoughts control our bikes, we spear through the night.

  1. I got little ones, I crave sleep. Hell, if my light keeps going out, I might as well ninja cycle. I'm out tonight, but it's great to see Cappy waxing all poetic and inspirational on the blog. Does this mean you are in tonight? The prodigal son returns?

  2. three days without air is one thing, but three days without bicycling is certainly fatal. Perhaps that is the fate that befell our silent comrades. Too long off the bike, and they have succumbed to the temptation to attend Peter's Pizza Party.

  3. I know it has not been 3 days w/out cycling for Ninjay Cappy. Anyone notice the title of the blog has changed - very sneaky.
Anyone else catch the results of this weekends Cross double header. our Cappy was doing some crushing at 6th place on Sat followed by a podium finish 3rd on Sunday. Looks like the A's were a bit tired on Sunday after a wee little race the day before.

On the fence, if it starts raining I'm in for sure.

  4. WOW Cappy. Podium performance on the race course and then a call out without drawing on the race for material. Proper!

  5. I'm leaning off the fence, meetings with over seas users start at 6am Wednesday. If I make it up it will be solo with a weak sauces exit.

  6. Glad to se the blog and HCF appear to be alive and well. My attempts to revive it did not go unnoticed...I am so happy (insert pitiful peterey sobbing voice.) The last Tuesday of the month, this month, is when I make my return. Of course that date is subject to change as the result of any number of potential conflicts.

  7. I hope Ninja night doesn't turn out anything like softball night. Good luck with that.

  8. And thanks for the props NoHandle. My favorite part of the weekend was bunny hopping the makeshift oak log barriers on the Folsom Rodeo course. That kicked ass. That course was so fun. Being in third, incidentially, is fun too.

  9. Have to admire Cappy's foresight to start preparing excuses for a ride that is still three weeks away.

    And a Weak-Sauce-Exit beats a Peter-No-Ride in my estimation.

  10. By the way. Some of you might appreciate this little bit of info. Around lap six of the Lembi race I passed a decked out HRS Rocklobster racer. He looked a bit dodgy. A bit later we came into a paved stretch, all of a sudden I hear tires rubbing an realize he is rubbing my back wheel. Then I heard it. The crushing sound of bike and body hitting the pavement. Dude ran into my rear wheel and went down hard. I stopped to check on him and he was still showing signs of dodginess, (no surprise) so I jammed off and told the next non-racer I saw to go check on him. I lost about 40 seconds on that one. I felt bad for him. Needless to say he didn't show up on Sunday.

  11. By "stopped to check on him" do you mean "kicked him to make sure he didn't get up again"?

  12. Did anyone notice there were two call outs today. Almost 3 in fact but I took the opportunity to check "Drafts" before posting mine and had an advance reading of the Ninja post.

  14. Awesome. The Ninja Post is already making its way into FT3 HCF folklore. With a special reference name and all.
