Fall Edition of SSFT3 2012

Let's get this thing going.
Tomorrow is Oct 2, and the first SSFT3 of fall. I just wish we had some precip to hold down the dust.

Quick ride report from the weekend.  I met up with "New Guy" Lars and sometimes-guy Green Fro for a nice meeting of the Sunday Skinny Tire service.  We took down Mosquito-Rock Creek - 193.

I have it on a back channel convo that Cappy and Jr Cappy were once again crushing the local cycling scene.  The week before last they were crushing the CX circuit, this weekend it was BMX. What is next for the Cappy men.   Reporting on the BMX front is that both were just a step away from the top spot on the podium taking home the Father/Son set of second places.  Nice work!
I wonder if Cappy was also rolling new wheels of the 4x4 sort?

I'm in tomorrow, but still deciding if I'm man enough to ride the SS.
B, what sort of concrete dry-watching, dirt grading, dam shooting, late season budget spending events do you have this week.  NoCar, I'll buy the prebrs if you show.

  1. Wish I could join y'all, but alas I have to work. And as an added sting my ss frame still has a clean break through the down tube. Hope to make it back to the ft3 ranks soon! Anyonne up for some EDT rail riding in the future? It's my work commute.

  3. Newb, have you started compiling some winter riding gear. I'm sure you will return one day, and on that day it could be very dust free and very wet and cold. Get ready, this aint Kansas anymore.

  4. Nor is it New Mexico. Nice work NoHandle getting the blog posted last night. It was exciting to get stoked about FT3 on a Monday evening, not to mention no having to worry about posting the call out. Thanks for the BMX props. Nohandle ride the old soldier, I am riding my cross bike.

A big thanks to Rock God who helped me finally "get serious about cross" by selling me his tubular wheelset with tires at an FT3-only discount price. You da man!!

  6. I would hate to disappoint the pack by missing the preBR offer.

  7. Took down some new trails in Humboldt this weekend. Met up with a buddy who was eager to debut his 2013 carbon stumpy. The ride started abruptly with a legit 4 mile ascent to an old growth shaded ridge trail followed by a faaaast rip down on madrone leaf littered singletrack. All the trails still held some moisture content. It was a real treat to push the corners and have the tires grip.

  8. Wow, with all the HCF comments I feel like it's TUESDAY! Thanks for the early call out THTH, it's a great way to start the fall season. Welcome back Nocar, great to see that you can make tonight's ride.

I wanted to ride dirt Sunday w/B but ended up not contacting him unfortunately. Hopefully that ride went well.

    Five!

  9. Thanks B, for the detailed ride report.

I like Newb's comment "... EDT rail riding in the future? " Although I'll enjoy some trail riding alongside the railroads, I don't imagine that I'll ever be able to ride on the rail itself.

Lately I've been slacking on getting together a back channel directory. It is still in the works but I still do not have contact information for several riders.

    1. You should also compile emergency contact numbers, for safety's sake.

    2. Great Idea Nocar, thanks for thinking more safely than me.

  10. NoCar, one question about Humbolt and your comment "still held some moisture content" is it ever anything but damp (or shall I say Dank) up there.

    Is new guy C-Man attending?

  11. Actually, once you get away from the coast, the climate is dry and sunny. And very dank.

  13. I could swear I saw a note in a recent post from our political leader about broken forks and such that read "but will be rolling a rigid 6er SS in the near future. "

Well, it is the future and a great time to roll a SS.

  14. I could certainly use some counseling this evening, maybe back-channel pressure is necessary...

  15. And what about RG? He's rumored to be secret training.
Has anyone witnessed the mangled toe? We need a pic for the blog.

  16. Still out, more because of work than toe. It's CX bike worthy but not sure about FT3 worthy. Plus, work has me swamped. I'll probably run out of excuses after first rain. :-)

    Out tonight.

    1. I think I said the same thing twice... trying to multi-task on two computers while in meeting.

  18. Is "I'm too weak to ride my bike." code for secret dance training?

  19. Councilman is always in great shape! When he was overseas, he was exploring local single tracks! Indeed we look forward to the return of the next new guy.

  20. Funny, that. I'll be back when the wintry mix shows. Sorry I missed the reunion!
