Tribute to Tom Magliozzi of Car Talk

FT3'ers I know many of you have your car (no not "Your" car NoCar) radio tuned to NPR on your drive back from the trail head on Sundays.  I certainly do and over the years have really enjoyed the banter and laughter of Tom and Ray, "Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers" of NPR's Car Talk.

With Tom's passing yesterday, this marks the end of a truly creative and unique radio show that many people have enjoyed for years.  At times, the show reminded me of some of you and how much we all laugh at the stupidest things and how much we enjoy trying to make each other laugh.  I know that my whole family enjoyed Car Talk and Tom's infectious laugh.

As we did in the past with the passing of another unique and creative showman, Huell Howser; I'd like to dedicate tonight's ride to Tom Magliozzi and enjoy a good laugh and a great ride.

And, don't forget to vote, bring a single speed and bring your lights.
First ride of light change, first ride of the month and it is voting day.

I'm in.

PS: I'll be riding on gears.

  1. TWO! Running gears. My single speed is making a funny noise, kinda of a "klanity klank".

    2. I think RG should donate the Lynskey MTB as the FT3 beater bike.

  2. I always appreciated their derision for SUVs. And they did make fun of cars in general, which is awesome.

  3. Out. I will be attending the Mojo benefit at Powells. Should be an awesome moon tonight, maybe I'll ride up for a second round of tacos.

    1. Good on you, mate. If you decide to ride up for tacos shoot me a text I might be down or up for that. I would not be able to leave before 8:30 though.

  4. Count is at two. Back channel from B is a strong "probably out"

  5. Wow, perfect fall conditions and a count of TWO; all the young reliables are missing; are they out picketing at the polls?

  6. Who would have thought there would be a car tribute bike ride. Good on ya no handle. Way to not polarize, especially on election day. Did everyone vote the party lines today? Seems to me there was no 'other option' on some of those seats.

  7. I just found out B is on a BEAR - Burned Area Emergency Response, presumably out with the Bears until Dec 15. Either way I need to get in touch with him to develop a grant application for the Brockless Bridge ASAP.

  8. I know you are all at the edge of your seats waiting for a race report. Sac CX #3, I couldn't catch a break. Feeling all stoked about the off camber sections and my super sweet new and recently glued tubular tires, I was ready to race, albeit still 'nursing' a sore back from the previous week. I am getting called up to the line these days which is rather flattering. And we were off, about 3/4 of the way through lap #1, I was sitting somewhat comfortably in the six or 7 spot. Upon arrival to a nice open straightaway, I put the hammer down a bit and my rear derailleur cage ripped right off the derrailleur, much to my dismay, I thought my day was done. However, there was a strava friend and acquaintance Ron Faulk who was nice enough to loan me his bike, and his shoes (he has Time pedals) so I could finish the race. I managed to claw my way back into the group, passing two riders and finishing 13th or 15 riders. I determined early on that I was not able to push his bike like I am my own. Nor was I able to push his shoes. I slipped on the grass just before a barrier and went down. Fortunately I avoided curbing myself on the barrier and knocking out all my front teeth. Another race in the books, that is 4 weeks in a row my friends. Next race is on November 15, time to reset and refocus and re-install my derailleur.

  9. My update from B is he is really earning our hard earned tax dollars putting in long days until the snow flies. Lets hope the snow flies low and deep soon.
What up with the Brockless Brigde- bring it Cappy
